HUMAN activity is leading to the rapid draining of about one third of the planet’s underground water reserves, determined by NASA’s GRACE satellites used to measure the Earth’s fresh drinking water supply and determined that of 37 of the world’s major aquifers, 21 have passed the point of sustainability, leading scientist to make a terrifying remark: “the situation is quite critical.”
