Real-Life Woman Who Inspired the “Betty Boop” Cartoon Character

Esther Jones aka Betty BoopEsther Jones was a black entertainer in the 1920’s. Her stage name was Baby Esther and her hit song was ” boop-oop-a-doop.” Her persona was copied by Fleischer studios into their famous Betty Boop cartoon character. Esther Jones tried to sue the studio, but lost. She died in obscurity.
