The Un-Aired “Munsters” Color Test Pilot (1964)

Though “The Munsters” series was shot using black and white film, it wasn’t originally intended to be that way! The producers filmed the first “test” episode in color (below).

The series originally aired on Thursday at 7:30pm on CBS from September 24, 1964, to May 12, 1966; 70 episodes were produced. It was cancelled after ratings dropped to a low due to the premiere of ABC’s Batman, which was in color.

Terrible, wasn’t it? Below is the reworked Munsters pilot that sold and aired — WITHOUT using the soundtrack from the Doris Day movie, The Thrill of it All.  Overall a vast improvement, except for the missing COLOR!
